I bought my echelon2160 as all my high-end appliances were in 2008! Has worked nonstop til 2020. I have a repairman coming out this week. I read all these reviews and a few complain that repairs are high. I haven’t had any on this baby but I have all high-end appliances and I would say this categorically… if you are going to buy appliances in the thousands of dollars range versus a few hundred buy a (good and reputable) home warranty plan. It’s $65/mo but when something goes out they fix it to satisfactory condition or replace it. Yes, I’ve gone 6+ yrs with NO APPLIANCE FAILURES but in one 3yr period year, I had a Bosch dishwasher, a Dacor double oven (lightening) and a Dacor drawer microwave (just plain used to death) go out. We’re talking $8K+ if they had to be replaced instead of repaired. Fortunately only one was unrepairable but sometimes the repair process is just as costly. Just my opinion but worth every penny.

This is an excellent ice maker – any of the CRL2160 models. I have had mine for about 6 months. I used to design commercial ice makers – several tons of ice per day per machine. This is a well-designed machine. It is quiet – though if you expect silence – that does not happen with any ice maker. It makes the ice as described – lots of it. I love this kind of ice. It is not frozen solid like from your freezer, so it is healthier for you if you are an ice chewer like me. For me, this is the third most important device in the kitchen (after the sink and refrigerator – but better than a microwave or stovetop for me.)

We bought this two months ago and have been using it almost daily. It makes lovely, clear ice cubes. They are about 3/4″ square. They come out of the dispenser as a big set, but I use a stainless steel scoop (purchased separately, the one that comes with it is puny) to break them apart and it works great. It produces a lot of ice. It’s a little noisy, but so is the fridge. It lets you know when it needs water and when the tray is full.

UPDATE!! fast forward to March 2023. It recently just stopped making ice on me. It will make ice for several hours then the whole thing freezes and won’t make anymore. Have to thaw it out and start it over. Very disappointed. I did purchase the extended warranty so we shall see how honorable they are when I contact them to come fix it. Fingers crossed. I will update you on that as well.

I purchased this unit almost 6 months ago and was extremely happy with its performance, but then it stopped working. Since we were going away for several weeks, I shut it off. When we returned, I turned it back on and checked on it several hours later and it was back making ice again. Just before dinner, I opened up the ice maker door and steam poured out. It was red hot inside and the ice bucket was filled with water.
